Something of a disastrous weekend. Started on Saturday with a problem with my profile on Firefox getting messed up. Partially my own problem as I'd been using a clone user account on the desktop but it was now biting when trying to tidy up other things on the network, so I switched back to a simple 'lester' as is on all the servers. Thought I'd covered all the bases moving the current configuration to the new profile, but apparently not. Anyway while a few bits are still messed up most is not in place. The biggest irritation is that the drop down menues are not working again using bootstrap code, but throwing a jquery error currently. Been here before which is why it is irritating, sleep on it and start fresh in the morning.
The reason for wanting a generic user account was married with tidying the automatic ssh login to both my user and root on the servrs. Starting with tidying the machine names on the servers which up until now have just been localhost and accessed via IP address. Still not there on the old server which is logging in correctly and transparrently, but sftp has been broken. The new server took a while to reset the various keys and at some point the leap install on the old server will be replaced with tumbleweed and PHP7.3 will be no longer as I'll be running a second copy of the PHP8.4 setup.
There is a lot more that need documenting here, but a copy of the etc folder from the problem server did give me almost everything I needed. All that is left is to restore the LetEncrypt update process which is the one thing I forgot to back up as it was in the /root/.acme.sh folder, but I have the older copy that it was coned from so it should not take long to rebuild. just a new domain entry for phpsurgery.uk.
Daily backup was something I nearly forgot to copy over
goaccess provides the stats pages daily and needed it's config file copied over. this runs as a cron.daily job nginx-stats ...
firebird-backup aslo runs to back up the databases and copy any new storage material to the desktop machine ... such as the zipped backup and any new file upload.
Both up and working nicely since everything is in the right place ...
