Yet another new toy but is it progress
The new Watch8 turned up Friday and after topping up the charge I tried it on. The fabric strap and it's thinner design is certainly a lot more comfortable, but I think I actually preferred the mechanical twist ring to access stuff. No doubt I will get used to swiping around the edge of the glass, but I keep hitting things I don't actually want to open. At least MOST of what I am using was transferred from the old phone although I still need to find out how to get the old alarm tone as the annoying bell is not what I want. The setup menu does not have a section for it.
Will need to get a weeks worth of data to see how things compare, but the last two nights have had HRV back in the 600mS range, something I had not seen on the Watch4 for some months. I am working on the assumption that until the watch has a months worth of data it will not get back to the more normal range. I had a poor day yesterday for aerobic exercise, only managing a few minutes, well short of the 20 or so I've been achieving, but this morning after my morning physio/exercise I've already topped yesterday's total and I'll get a good walk in later. That I have the odd day each week that seems to have depressed heart rate is my norm, and I was worried the the new watch would struggle with the poor heart rhythm. That today it has seen a much better rate is encouraging.
Sleep has been a problem as well, although last night I did sleep through until the alarm rang, having been reading at 4AM the previous couple of nights. This is the area I am hoping the watch will do a bit better than the old one. The recharge time is also a lot better, so I will not be loosing 2 or 3 hours of 'activity', having topped up this morning in 30 minutes, even only charging to 90% to 'protect the battery'. The Watch4 was having trouble even with a 100% charge and on a few occasions had actually run out while out at the shows I've been visiting. So it looks like there are some improvements to justify the £200 expense.
