It has been an interesting seven days. Having jumped through a few hoops I now have RDMCloud live and linked into all my devices so I can get the basic stuff done. Calendar and Contacts are working nicely and I have been adding events like getting the car booked in for an MOT on the phone and it actually appearing in the desktop copy including in thunderbird. DAVx5 is apparently providing that magic rather then Nextcloud, but certainly it's progress. I am still struggling with some aspects of Nextcloud, such as Music and not even being able to get Cookbook working, but things like the links to GitHub and sorting the external files seem to be making sense.
Music featured in yesterdays rant, and while I had got my physical music collection sorted, it seems it is not totally complete. A crib sheet to process an item of music is needed to poke me with all that I had been involved with in the past, and currently I am waiting for edits on MusicBrainz to be accepted before I can tidy up a few things. Previously I had done enough to get Plex and Jellyfin to list the material but some of that was downloaded on the fly, while Nextcloud needs everything in the file or folder that fore example make up an Album. One thing that is perhaps missing in Music on Nextcloud is the ability to manage more than one collection. Currently I have two libraries in two separate folders. One for modern music and the other classical. The modern material is sorted by artist while the composer tends to not be important, while my classic collection is more geared to the composer with the performers being secondary. None of the current options do a particularly good job of the classical music, but I have learnt that I can manage things better by making my own layout changes and editing the embedded metadata via picard. Just had some fun with "100 Hits Christmas" which while it handled the 4 CDs without any problem, there is a discrepancy in the MusicBrainz data for the Karaoke DVD which has a wrong track, and three others misplaced.
More to follow soon, or it would have been if I hadn't managed to hit page back in the browser. Had to break for something to eat but now back playing with the music stuff and working on that crib sheet.
I have been looking at the apps store but a lot of what could be useful is currently tagged as out of date. Since the Cookbook entry did actually have an install button, which failed to work, using older apps may be fun. Had the same problem with a number of projects in the past, but then I can't complain as bitweaver is also falling behind due to lack of time. Having to re-jig material such as the music collection just adds to the delay.
