srv10 server configuration
With the old srv9 server starting to shut down without warning I've picked up some extra bits to produce a new server around the graphic-less Ryzen processor that I had picked up by mistake when rebuilding the desktop machine. A GT710 had turned up which will provide 'graphics' although I'm running text only. That provided some more fun on the hires monitor which defaulted to even smaller fonts while installing tumbleweed.
The hardware is as follows:
-
Gigabyte B550M AORUS ELITE Motherboard
- AMD Ryzen5 5600 6-core Processor
-
Crucial Pro DDR4 RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) 3200MHz
- Crucial P3 Plus SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe
- GT710 1Gb Graphics Card
- Typhoon PS-551 Gaming PSU, 550W 80 PLUS Bronze
- Cheap Mini Tower Case
Having disposed a lot of kit while downsizing, having to now buy things like a case and power supply is a little irritating, but the power supplies I had as spares did not have the 8 pin plug that modern motherboards require, and given the cost of storage, the case was cheaper that it would have cost to store for the last year. I had everything sorted on the motherboard before the case arrived but could not get further than proving it was working until the broadband was back up. Last night it took little time to update everything to the latest build of Tumbleweed. I am still a little concerned about the decision to go with the rolling build rather than a more static Leap build. That Leap is still some way back on versions of everything was the deciding factor. PHP8.4 out of the box was the main decider and I'll be mirroring this on the desktop development machine. I've had to install Firebird manually, but that has gone nicely and even has the systemctl management out of the box.
