Genealogical Research

Reminders on the renewal of various subscriptions to genealigical sites have prompted me to review just where I have got to and what I am getting some benefit from. GenesReunited is a bit of a no brainer at just £9 a year to keep access to other peoples family trees and post my own data, but then WikiTree gives much the same for free! Both could do with an update as I have started filling in missing data taking advantage of a 6 month subscription to Ancestry which I'd done nothing with for the first 5 months. I've got access to more than enough material to keep me busy for some time so I will not bother to renew it for another six months. Searches on GenesReunited are easier to manage with a pay per search credit. I also have an account on FamilySearch run by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their original site was the main source of information when I first started 20+ years ago and while it now links to chargable third parties, it is still a good free source as well.

My real starting point for filling in gaps is the links on FamilySearch for the Isle of Man. There are a lot of ($) links quoted some of which I do have subscriptions to, but I need to update my own index of other free sources of material.

A quick check on Genealogical Links on lsces.uk shows that very little of them work today so just a matter of starting again on that. The original Family Tree information on lsces.uk which links to that also provides links to other pages of research from the past which I also need to review.
