Finally read The inside story of texas instruments biggest blunder the tms9900 microprocessor although I had seen it previously to it being linked to in a forum thread on The Register. Why it is relevent to me is that early in my career I'd opted for the TMS9900 for a project I was building for my then employer - Questech. This was a digital frame sychnoniser of which many were sold including a number ot the BBC. The use of the 16 bit processor gave a jump on the 8 bit devices that would have been an alternative, although I do not remember the 16 bit address space being an actual problem. The processor did it's job at that time and the TI development system which would have been one of their descrete component mini-computers did it's job all well before the PC became available.
Need to pull in all the 'intel' on just what was available at that time. The article adds another product that I'd missed off my original list ...
