Webstack - Building a new machine
I had a little bit of truble getting the older machine to boot from the USB stick, but once I'd sorted the boot order the option became available on the boot menu. This also allows me to select the older distribution disk should the need arise.
The usual setting up language, a user and I prefer a separate root password, although I could probably skip that given I cross link everything later anyway. Since I am starting with a new disk, I needed to use the Expert Partitioning option and keep existing partitions. I could probably have just pulled the other disks temporarily to be on the save sidde, but the empty disk is easy enouth to select, and then I have gone for 1Gb EfiBoot partition (DOS), 8Gb Swap file and then the rest of the disk is set as operating system, but with EXT4 rather then the btrfs that Tumbleweed offers by default. Claude agreed that this was a more stable option nyway. The base configuration is server only but having selected it I did take the opertunity to change the Security Settings. Firewall off rather than on, and SSH on rather than off, and then kill SELinux. Previously I'd tried to remove that from the package list, but the installer will not let you, so simply disabling it is the easier option. At some time I may go back to look at switching it on, but firewall wise I have the BT router to provide the buffer to the internet so don't need any more security on the local network.
Tumbleweed then just does it's thing although I did need to manually reset the boot order to get the right disk first. Then we can go onto the next steps of adding the rest of the stack.
