Mediatomb

Mediatomb has been a useful workhorse for several years, but with the growing volume of material it's limitations are becoming a problem, and nowadays it can't cope with a full scan of the music and it is not handling the translation of video to the payers properly. What is needed to replace it is something which maintains the underlying directory structure, rather than producing a flat database listing. Since there are no inherent search facilities, finding a particular piece on any of the players can be difficult.

Mediatomb is best kept to mirror smaller chunks of material on players rather then the whole archive.
