Definitely making progress ...

Although with little hiccups. Such as not noticing that the Bowden tube bolt had worked loose, so a print of the 3DBenchy in red failed about an hour in. It's running again and has about 30 minutes to go, but it's looking as good as the black one I printed yesterday. I've printed a couple of spool mounts in black as well, and will run a red set next, followed by white ones. Colour coordinated with the filament, and I just need a box now to…

Concentrating on calibrating the X5SA, by lunchtime on Sunday I had all four corners of the bed producing clean test patches as described by Michael in First Layer, but the middle patch was a problem and adjustment as not possible. The problem was down to a 0.2mm dome in the bed front to back which I needed to tighten down, but there are no knobs for as standard. I had one aluminium bar which I could use to add adjusti…

Why is nothing easy ...
Last night I spotted that while the laser printer is configured for 40 by 41cm, the ACTUAL full range is 15mm smaller and as a result the mdf I was cutting was messed up. I need to go back and reset the software for 385mm by 395mm! Still big enough for the 380mm sq profiles that freelaserfiles provide, but they need to be tighter to 0, rather than in the middle of a 40x40cm panel. I've managed to get two of three sheets cut correctly, for the start of the ma…

Two jobs on the go at once Laser Printer Lidded Box and X5SA Printer Modification Log. I had started by playing with the laser cutter and was making good progress, but with a cutting speed of 150mm/min it takes a while for the more complex profiles to cut, so I decided to fire up the 3D printer while waiting, and that has got a little more attention since the laser last ran. However waiting now for a 12 hour print on the 3D printer before then next step there, I'm back with the la…

One step forward and two back? Had run an update on tumbleweed yesterday but when I tried to start the flatpak version of cura it failed to start. Refresh of the overnight updates fortunatly cleared the problem and I can get back into it to start to play with settings. The new springs for the levelling of the X5SA build plate are still a little light, which was the problem with the supplied ones. Buying things like this can be a pain given that sellers have no idea ju…
