Tumbleweed is go

See the full write-up on the move to Tumbleweed. All seems to work, and now the initial failures have been addressed there is no pressing need to roll anything back. I just need to get stuck in updating 20 year old code so that it works with today's build of frameworks. Only requirement is that nothing really changes in the end results, leaving one wondering WHY ...

Think I need somewhere to break down all the new stuff I'm digesting, such as ((Handling…

Success helps reduce the agro from others

I'm just waiting on the redelivery of a parcel that SHOULD have been here yesterday. DPD have delivered many times, but there was a new driver yesterday and he had no idea how to find our block so claimed I was out and photographed the other side of the block out on the main road. I do have a little simpathy since the DPD system is using a trashed copy of the PAF database which screws up the house number ... which INCLUDES the block name, but not on a number of drop down address lists. Time I think to give up on this as a bad job. I have several components of the process to produce a fully digitized version of the Model Engineering magazines, but nothing that gets close to producing a usable result complete with individual images. Tesseract is very good at the text side of things, but only when there is only text to work with. Things like adverts with text inside frames confude it, and images seem to get a smattering of text without any actual text being present. I have a c…

Morning stresses

By Lester Caine
24 February 2025

I'm not particularly a person of habit, but my morning routine is fairly structured. This morning was 'stressful' as things did not go as planned once again due to the crap that computer programs seem still to involve. I have switched things so that I now get up at 6:30 rather than 7 purely because of nannying from the health apps I'm currently using, although I refuse to respect the 10PM bedtime that the watch app insists has to be respected. I am comfortable with 8 hours sle…
